Your major choice when you decide where to live is whether to look for an apartment or a villa. Apartments are generally in the Manama area and its suburbs, while villas are situated across the country.
If you chose a villa you will also have to choose an individual villa on its own, or a villa in a compound. Most expats choose a compound villa with its added security and facilities, which often include a swimming pool, tennis and squash courts and a children's play area.
Many apartments blocks also include a swimming pool and some even have roof top tennis courts. Almost all apartments blocks and compounds have some form of security and prices for both apartments and villas vary considerably according to the age and state of repair of the building, and the facilities provided.
